Search Rush County Cases

Start a Rush County case lookup with the public records Indiana's trial courts keep on file. You can search by party name, case number, citation, or attorney. The results show a running summary of each case's public events and settings, drawn from both local trial courts. Sealed, juvenile, and other restricted material stays off limits, no matter how you search. If an online result is missing or hard to read, the Rush County Clerk and the courthouse itself are still the best places to turn. Before trusting any match, check the court code, the filing date, and the case style against the actual Rush County court docket.

How to Search Cases by Name

Indiana MyCase is the official public route for a Rush County case lookup. Choose the Party tab, enter an exact last name with a first name, and select Rush County in the Court list. A business name belongs in the Business field instead of the personal-name boxes. The portal can search open and closed matters across Rush Circuit Court and Rush Superior Court.

A broad Rush County name search may return several people or several cases for one person. Compare the case style, file date, status date, court, and case type. Do not assume the first row is the correct court record. The official MyCase search tips explain that an end wildcard can expand a name, while Sounds-like can help with spelling variants. Those two tools cannot be combined.

  1. Open MyCase and choose Party.
  2. Enter the last name plus a first name, middle initial, or date of birth filter.
  3. Select Rush County, then narrow by category, status, or file-date range.
  4. Compare result rows and open the matching chronological case summary.

Rush County MyCase Search Tabs

MyCase presents three distinct routes: Case, Party, and Attorney. The Case tab accepts a case number, citation number, or cross-reference number, but only one of those identifiers at a time. Party search handles a person or business. Attorney search accepts either a lawyer's name or attorney number, not both routes together.

The official search-tips source is shown in the captured Rush County case-search image below.

The image reinforces why choosing the correct tab and identifier comes before adding Rush County filters.

Case
Use a known AR8 case, citation, or cross-reference number.
Party
Use a person or business name with optional narrowing fields.
Attorney
Use counsel's name or Indiana attorney number.

How to Search by Case Number

A Rush County AR8 number follows four groups. In 70C01-2608-IF-000001, 70 is the county code, C01 identifies Rush Circuit Court, 2608 identifies the filing year and month, IF means infraction, and the last six characters form the sequence. Rush Superior Court begins with 70D01. MyCase permits omitted hyphens and leading zeroes, but copying the full number reduces mistakes.

A transfer between the two Rush County courts can change the first group while keeping the six-character sequence. If a known number produces no result, try the court shown in the latest notice and search the sequence with the other current Rush code. The abolished 70E01 Rush County Court is not a current destination.

Rush Case Codes Without Guesswork

Indiana Administrative Rule 8 governs the number format. The third group says what kind of matter was filed. IF marks an infraction; CM marks a misdemeanor; F1 through F6 mark current felony levels. Civil examples include CT tort, PL plenary, MF mortgage foreclosure, EV eviction, and SC small claims. Probate codes include EM, ES, EU, GM, GU, and TR.

The manifest image from the Rule 8 source captures the official number framework used in every Rush County case lookup.

What a Case Search Shows

A Rush County result row can show case number, file date, case style, court, status, and status date. The detail view may add parties, attorneys, chronological events, hearings, charges or civil category, bonds, cross-references, related cases, financial entries, disposition, and allowed event documents. That chronology is the public-facing docket, called the chronological case summary in MyCase.

Style / PartiesPublic caption and labeled party roles
EventsFiled, entered, and scheduled events in date order
DocumentsOnly links allowed by the public-access matrix

Online financial data may be incomplete. An official balance or certified copy comes from the Rush County Clerk, not from a saved public screen.

Rush MyCase Result Limits

A broad Rush County case lookup can reach MyCase's 1,000-result ceiling. Narrow by court, category, status, or filing period instead of assuming the missing rows do not exist. The inspected portal defaults to twenty results per page and can sort by case number, file date, case style, or status date.

Common-name fix: begin with an exact first and last name, select Rush County, widen dates only as needed, and verify the AR8 court code before opening the docket.

A CAPTCHA may appear after repeated or automated-looking searches. Do not bypass it. Pause, use normal public access, or call the Clerk at 765-932-2086 for case-location help and courthouse terminal instructions.

County vs Statewide Case Search

Rush County has no separate county-built search portal. Indiana MyCase is both the statewide public layer and the normal online Rush County case-search route. Local depth comes from narrowing MyCase to Rush County, then contacting the unified Clerk for the official file, nonpublic online documents that remain available in person, and certified copies.

Rush Odyssey Courts Since 2009

The official Odyssey court list identifies both 70C01 Rush Circuit Court and 70D01 Rush Superior Court as live since December 1, 2009. MyCase draws on Odyssey and some converted legacy events, but older availability can vary. A missing older record may still exist in the Clerk's custody.

That history explains why an older Rush County court record may require a counter or staff-assisted search even when current dockets appear online.

Restricted Cases and Access Rules

Indiana Court Records Rule 4 begins with public access, subject to exclusions and other law. Rule 5 protects sealed material, medical and treatment records, confidential identifiers, certain family matters, mental-health records, juvenile cases, and other defined categories. Public MyCase results do not promise a downloadable image for every docket event.

Adoption, juvenile, and mental-health categories have strong limits. Protection-order searches use a separate official registry. A granted expungement can remove public content, while a pending or denied matter may remain searchable. If legal grounds exist to seek an excluded record, Rule 9 provides a verified court-request process. The Rush County Clerk cannot disregard a seal through an ordinary copy request.

No Rush Case Result Found

First remove an uncertain category, check whether the number begins 70C01 or 70D01, and try citation or cross-reference search separately. For a name, test an exact spelling, then Sounds-like or a valid end wildcard. Do not combine fields that MyCase treats as alternate routes.

If the Rush County case lookup still fails, call the Clerk at 765-932-2086 or visit Room 209 at 101 E. 2nd Street in Rushville. Ask about a public terminal or staff-assisted file search. Circuit Court at 765-932-2078 and Superior Court at 765-932-3520 can answer court-specific setting questions once the court is known. Mail may be possible for a record request, but Rush County publishes no general email or fax acceptance rule for every copy request, so confirm the method first.

Federal cases are outside MyCase. Rush County federal matters belong in the Southern District of Indiana and require PACER or the federal court's search route.
