Searching Rush County Civil Dockets
Indiana MyCase is the free state portal for Rush County civil docket searches. It pulls public case information from Rush Circuit and Rush Superior courts. Have a case number? Use it. A personal name goes in the Party field, while a business name goes in Business. Pick Rush County under Court, and remember that Civil, Family, and Probate are separate filters. Limit yourself to Civil. You may miss a divorce, an estate, a guardianship, or a protection order hiding in another category.
Rush County case numbers begin with 70C01 for Circuit and 70D01 for Superior. The digits that follow carry the filing year and month. They also carry the case type, and a sequence number. You can drop hyphens and leading zeroes when searching by number. For a broad party search, filter by status and filing dates with care. A range that starts too late can hide an older filing you thought you remembered.
- Select Case for a number or Party for a person or business.
- Choose Rush County and the relevant Civil, Family, or Probate filters.
- Compare case style, court, file date, type, and status.
- Read events from newest to oldest for the current result.
- Request an official or certified paper from the Rush County Clerk.
Rush Civil Court Filters
The court filter and the category filter work as a pair. Choosing Rush County unlocks the categories the two Odyssey courts support. Unsure of the exact type? Begin broad. Then narrow it down. The official MyCase search tips allow a wildcard at the end of a name but never at the start, and sounds-like, which catches spelling variants, cannot run beside a wildcard at all.
A blank results screen does not prove a case is absent. Run both local court codes. Drop a category you are unsure about, widen the filing range, and look for a transfer or a cross-reference. Repeated or automated-looking requests can trip a CAPTCHA in MyCase, and the right fallback is the clerk rather than any effort to push past that limit.
| Search choice | Best use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Case number | Known Rush file | Transfer may change court group |
| Party or business | Unknown number | Common names create several results |
| Category | Limit case family | Over-filtering can hide the match |
Inside a Rush County Civil Docket
A Rush County civil docket lays out the essentials. You get court, case number, filing date, case type, style, status, and the date of that status. Parties carry roles such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or intervenor. Attorney associations show up too, along with public bar numbers. Keep in mind the civil classification is only a filing category. It is not a full account of every claim in the case.
| Header | Court, number, file date, case style, type, and status. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public role labels and associated counsel. |
| Events | Filing, service, answer, motion, hearing, order, judgment, and appeal. |
| Settings | Public date, time, location, and setting type. |
| Disposition | Judgment, default, dismissal, closure, or other entered result. |
Money can show up as well. Financial summaries and transaction entries appear in the docket, though an online amount may lag a recent act by the clerk. Cross-references point to transfers or related cases. Where privacy applies, redacted or restricted markers replace protected addresses, medical content, private identifiers, sealed filings, or excluded material.
Rush Civil Codes From CT to PL
Administrative Rule 8 sets the civil classifications. CT is tort and PL is plenary. MF means mortgage foreclosure. MI miscellaneous civil, CC civil collection, EV eviction, and SC small claims. Domestic relations cases use DC, DN, or DR. Estates use EM, ES, or EU; guardianship uses GU or GM. A code helps you route a Rush County docket search. But it does not describe the whole dispute.
- Filed or accepted
- The initial paper was entered and the case opened.
- Default
- A result entered after a required response or appearance failed; read the judgment.
- Dismissed
- A claim or case ended by dismissal, without a guaranteed public reason.
- Closed
- An administrative status that can still be followed by post-judgment activity.
Use the exact event text. Never infer settlement merely because a status says closed.
Civil Case Types on the Docket
Rush County runs civil work through two courts rather than one. There is no stand-alone civil court here. Circuit and Superior divide the civil, family, juvenile, and probate caseload under local assignment rules, so a Rush County civil docket may hold collection, tort, foreclosure, plenary, miscellaneous civil, small claims, eviction, domestic relations, estates, guardianships, protective orders, expungement, and tax matters alike.
Small claims follow a precise split. Atlas Collections cases and school cases land in Circuit. Everything else small claims goes to Superior, and evictions run through the Superior civil and small-claims structure too. Beyond that, assignment can be random or based on the relationship between cases. Rush County publishes no civil dollar cutoff, so never guess a filing threshold to decide which court holds a file. Just search both.
One more limit matters. Juvenile activity is reported separately, and person-level juvenile dockets stay out of public view. Aggregate court statistics are the only window.
Rush Civil Filings in 2024
Want the full-year picture? The official ICOR statistics interface counted 855 Rush civil filings in 2024. Collections dominated at 303. Small claims came in at 119, protective orders at 65, and evictions at 62.
Domestic relations split by children. Cases without children totaled 38, while cases with children reached 27. Mortgage foreclosure filings numbered 28, plenary 27, miscellaneous civil 32, and tort 16. Probate-related matters and other categories filled out the rest. That rest belongs to the 2024 Rush County civil docket.
Read these numbers the right way. They are aggregate administrative counts, not individual docket entries and not a tally of pending cases. They say nothing about the merit of any claim. Civil violations and juvenile activity are counted in separate reports.
Rush Civil Docket Settings
A Rush County civil docket setting can carry a label like motion, status conference, trial, or review. Start with the newest entry. Then check notices, orders, continuances, and later status lines against it. A hearing that has moved stays in the chronology. The old date does not vanish.
Continuances leave a paper trail. A Rush County motion to continue must say whether opposing counsel or parties were contacted, whether any GAL or CASA agrees or objects, and a proposed order must leave space for the new hearing date. So the chronology may list a motion, an order, and the replacement date as three separate entries.
Which date wins? For your own case, the filed notice, the latest order, or confirmation straight from the court controls. Call Circuit at 765-932-2078 or Superior at 765-932-3520. The clerk, at 765-932-2086, can help find the case file but is not always the final word on a setting.
Rush Judgments and Certified Copies
A judgment you pull up online can be handy for reading a Rush County court docket. Yet it is not a certified copy. The remote-access system that supplies it can leave gaps. A judge's signature or an attachment may not be there when you need it. Certification means the clerk swears the copy matches the record the court actually keeps. For anything official, ask the clerk.
The official MyCase document-access matrix lays out which categories of civil files can be reached from home.

Case type drives what you can get. CT, MF, MI, PL, and CC files usually allow nonconfidential online orders and documents. EV and SC lean the same way for orders. Other permitted papers may still take a trip to the clerk. Family cases are the tightest of all. DC, DN, and DR offer no public documents online. Allowed nonconfidential material can still be inspected in person at the courthouse.
Rush Civil Docket Access Rules
Indiana Access Rule 4 creates the presumption that court records are open to the public, remote access included. That openness has limits, though. Adoption and mental-health records get no public document access under the official matrix. Juvenile, CHINS, and termination cases are closed to public documents both online and in person. Sealed and in-camera papers stay protected as well.
The full text appears at the official public-access rule.

It sets the public presumption side by side with the exclusions and access limits that govern any Rush civil file.
Excluded records: Rule 9 provides the court process to seek access to excluded material. A casual counter request cannot override a seal.
Rush Civil Access Channels
MyCase is the statewide remote channel, while the Rush County Clerk's Room 209 counter and public terminal serve walk-in needs for permitted files. The clerk sits at 101 E. 2nd Street, Room 209, Rushville, IN 46173. Call ahead about copy fees, certification, payment, and whether a mailed request in your proposed form will be accepted.
Circuit and Superior phone lines can point you to a current setting, but they do not run separate civil searches. Administrative Rule 9 backs courthouse inspection and daily calendars. Order transcripts from the court reporter, and send bulk or compiled data requests through Indiana's court-services route rather than the local civil counter.
Older Rush files may need clerk or archive routing, so bring a year, party name, case type, and any known number. Get any certified order from the clerk itself, never a saved browser screen. A quick Rush County case lookup can pin down the case number before you ask for a copy.
